India’s Central Government orders Swift Pushback of Bangladeshi and Myanmar Nationals
In a critically important move,India’s Ministry of Home Affairs has mandated that all states and Union Territories must push back illegal immigrants from Bangladesh and Myanmar within 30 days. This directive empowers local authorities and security forces, including the Border Security Force (BSF) and Assam Rifles, to take decisive action against unauthorized entries, reinforcing India’s commitment to border security.
The pushback policy, which entails forcibly returning these individuals to thier home countries, is not entirely new; though, this is the first time a strict deadline has been imposed. Recently, the Indian Coast Guard successfully repatriated 78 fishermen to Satkhira, Bangladesh, highlighting the urgency of the situation. The Gujarat government has also identified over 6,000 suspicious bangladeshi nationals, raising concerns about illegal immigration and its implications for national security. As India grapples with these challenges, the balance between humanitarian considerations and border integrity remains a contentious issue, stirring emotions and debates across the nation.
