Lionel Messi Returns to International Football After Seven-Month hiatus
After a seven-month absence, Lionel Messi, the captain of Argentina’s World Cup-winning team, is back on the international stage. The football icon has rejoined his national team for training sessions ahead of the CONMEBOL World cup qualifiers. Messi last donned the Argentine jersey in November 2024, and his return is highly anticipated by fans and teammates alike.
The 37-year-old superstar missed two crucial World Cup qualifying matches in March due to a muscle injury. However, his absence did not hinder Argentina, as they secured victories in both matches, ensuring their spot in the upcoming World Cup under coach Lionel Scaloni. On Monday,Messi participated in training at the national team’s complex near Buenos Aires. Currently, Argentina leads the CONMEBOL standings with 31 points and is set to face Chile on Thursday. Following that, they will host Colombia at the historic Monumental Stadium in Buenos Aires next week. Notably, Messi has been in stellar form in club football, being named MLS player of the Week for the second consecutive week after contributing to all goals in Inter Miami’s 5-1 victory against Columbus Crew.
