In a shocking case that highlights the dark side of social media, a 37-year-old businessman has been arrested for allegedly blackmailing a 25-year-old woman he befriended on Instagram in 2021. The Delhi Police reported on May 30 that the accused coerced the woman into sharing personal photos and videos, leading to a series of threats and harassment that left her feeling vulnerable and exploited.
The woman,unaware of the man’s marital status,developed a close relationship with him,only to find herself trapped in a web of deceit. After sharing intimate images, she began receiving threats and obscene messages from unknown individuals through fake Instagram and email accounts. Deputy Police Commissioner Prashant Gautam revealed that the accused not only created these fraudulent accounts using her pictures but also extorted ₹1 lakh from her. Moreover, he allegedly forced her into unethical acts during Google Meet calls, showcasing a disturbing abuse of power and trust. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers lurking in the digital world, urging users to remain vigilant and cautious in their online interactions.
