Calcutta High Court Orders Resumption of Stalled 100 Days Work Scheme
In a critically important ruling, the Calcutta High Court has directed the central government too restart the 100 Days Work scheme, wich has been on hold for three years. Chief Justice of the High Court emphasized that no project should be indefinitely shelved, mandating that the scheme must be operational by August 1. Though, the court also noted that the central government can impose conditions to prevent corruption, a concern that has been raised repeatedly by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata banerjee.
The 100 days Work scheme, aimed at providing employment to rural households, has faced allegations of corruption, leading to itS suspension. The central government has claimed that there have been significant irregularities in the disbursement of funds in West Bengal. This ongoing tug-of-war between the state and the centre highlights the political tensions surrounding welfare programs,as both sides continue to navigate the complexities of governance and accountability. The court’s decision not onyl revives hope for job seekers but also underscores the importance of openness in public spending.
