State Health Department Issues Ban on 137 Medications Amid Quality concerns
In a notable move to safeguard public health, the State Health Department has announced a ban on the sale of 137 different medications. This directive, which includes specific drug names and batch numbers, has been communicated to both wholesale and retail vendors, urging them to remove these products from the market immediately. The list encompasses a range of medications, from post-operative injections to eye drops, as well as treatments for tuberculosis and drugs used in chemotherapy and radiotherapy recovery.
The decision comes on the heels of a nationwide quality assurance test that revealed 198 medications failed to meet safety standards. Among the banned items are critical treatments for diabetes and medications aimed at alleviating gastrointestinal ulcers. This proactive measure reflects a growing concern over the quality of pharmaceuticals available to the public, emphasizing the need for stringent regulatory oversight to ensure patient safety and trust in healthcare systems.
