WhatsApp Business Unveils New Pricing Model: A shift to Per-message Charges
In a meaningful update for businesses, WhatsApp has announced a new pricing structure for it’s Business Platform, set to take effect on July 1, 2025. This change will transition from charging per conversation to a per-message fee, aiming to simplify the pricing model and align with industry standards. As businesses adapt to this new framework, understanding the implications of these changes will be crucial for effective interaction strategies.
Under the new rules, each message sent from a WhatsApp Business account will incur a charge if it falls outside the customer service window. For instance, sending a marketing template alongside two utility templates will result in three separate charges. However, if utility messages are sent within the customer service window, only the marketing template will be charged. Categories subject to fees include marketing messages, utility messages, and authentication messages.Notably, WhatsApp has announced that utility template messages sent in response to user messages will now be free of charge.
Additionally, to incentivize high-volume users, WhatsApp will introduce a volume tier system, allowing businesses that send a larger number of messages to benefit from more affordable rates. charges will be persistent based on the country code of the user’s phone number and the category of the message, with fees applicable only upon successful delivery. This strategic shift not only reflects WhatsApp’s commitment to enhancing user experience but also poses new challenges for businesses navigating the evolving landscape of digital communication.
