Operation Shield Mock Drill Postponed Amid Rising Tensions
The much-anticipated Operation Shield mock drill has been temporarily postponed. Originally scheduled for Thursday, the civilian exercises were set to take place across Rajasthan, Gujarat, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Jammu & kashmir. The Punjab government has announced that a mock drill and blackout will now occur on June 3. However, the dates for the remaining states have yet to be confirmed.
Earlier, the central government had planned civilian drills in 244 locations across the country on May 7. This proclamation came shortly after the Indian Army conducted Operation sindoor, a retaliatory strike against multiple terrorist hideouts in Pakistan on May 6. Following four days of intense conflict, a ceasefire was declared, leading to the expectation of subsequent drills. As tensions continue to simmer, the postponement of these exercises raises questions about the preparedness and strategic responses of the Indian military in the face of ongoing threats.
