CP Imposed in Maheshtala as Night Falls, Section 163 Enforced

Police Crackdown in Maheshtala: Tensions Rise Amidst Violence

As night falls in maheshtala, Kolkata, teh situation has escalated, prompting a swift response from law enforcement. With police commissioner Manoj Verma and ADG South Bengal Supratim Sarkar assessing the unrest in Rabindranagar, authorities have imposed Section 163 of the Indian Penal Code, effectively reinstating the earlier Section 144. As darkness descends, police have taken to loudspeakers to announce a ban on gatherings of more than five people. This comes in the wake of violent incidents, including vehicle vandalism, leaving several officers, including the Deputy Commissioner of Port, critically injured.

The unrest has sparked questions within police ranks about the adequacy of their response. Local TMC leaders have expressed frustration over the insufficient police presence, especially given the escalating tensions reported since 9 AM. The streets, once bustling, are now marred by broken bricks stained red, a stark reminder of the violence that erupted. As the community grapples with the aftermath, the need for effective policing and community engagement has never been more apparent. The unfolding events in Maheshtala serve as a poignant reminder of the delicate balance between law enforcement and public safety in times of crisis.
