Election Commission Announces Rajya Sabha Elections for 8 Seats on June 19
The Election Commission of india has officially announced the biennial elections for eight Rajya Sabha seats, set to take place on June 19. This election will cover six seats from Tamil Nadu and two from Assam,with a notification expected to be released on june 2. In Assam, the terms of two BJP members, Birendra Prasad Baishya and Mission Ranjan Das, are coming to an end. Simultaneously occurring, Tamil Nadu will see the conclusion of terms for DMK members Mohammad Abdullah, M. S. Muthusamy, and P. Wilson, along with AIADMK’s N. Chandrasekaran, MDMK’s Vaiko, and PMK’s Ramadas, all expiring by June 14. Despite the upcoming elections, analysts suggest that the overall balance of power in the Rajya Sabha is unlikely to shift significantly.It is anticipated that the ruling and opposition parties will maintain their respective strengths post-election, with four of the six Tamil Nadu seats likely going to the DMK alliance and the AIADMK coalition expected to secure two. Both Assam seats are projected to remain with the BJP, which currently holds 98 of the 245 total Rajya sabha seats, while the NDA coalition comprises 125 members overall.
The current composition includes four members from Nitish Kumar’s JD(U), three from Ajit pawar’s NCP, and two from the TDP, alongside six nominated members and twelve from smaller NDA-affiliated parties.
