In a significant move to enhance road safety, the Central Government has issued a stern warning regarding the rampant sale of substandard helmets along the streets. These helmets frequently enough fail to meet the safety standards set by the government, putting the lives of motorcycle and scooter riders at increased risk. The Consumer Affairs Department, along with the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), has urged citizens to use only BIS-approved helmets for their safety.
The government has directed all states to monitor the production and sale of these inferior helmets closely and take strict action against violators. In a public statement, the Consumer Affairs Department emphasized the critical need for safety, especially considering that over 210 million two-wheelers are in operation across the country. The presence of low-quality helmets not only jeopardizes the safety of riders but also poses a broader risk to public safety on the roads. As the government takes these measures, it highlights the importance of adhering to safety standards to protect lives and ensure safer journeys for all.
