Indian Air force Pilot Shubhanshu Shukla Set to Make History as He Heads to ISS with Homemade Delicacies
In a groundbreaking moment for India, Air Force pilot Shubhanshu Shukla is preparing to embark on a journey to teh International Space Station (ISS) on June 8, marking the first time an Indian will travel to space in nearly 40 years since Rakesh Sharma. Shukla will not only be taking part in scientific experiments but will also bring along homemade Indian meals, a unique touch that highlights the cultural importance of food even in space. This mission, facilitated by NASA and Axiom Space, promises to be a remarkable chapter in India’s space exploration history.
Shukla’s journey will commence from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida aboard a SpaceX Dragon spacecraft. Among the delicacies he plans to take is a special rice dish, which, unlike the sticky rice commonly found in other countries, is a fluffy variety grown in India. Though, the challenge of zero gravity may cause the rice to float, potentially complicating mealtime. Despite this, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has approved his choice of food, ensuring that Shukla can enjoy a taste of home while conducting crucial research aboard the ISS. Over the course of 14 days, he and his fellow astronauts will engage in various experiments, furthering our understanding of space and its effects on the human body.
