In a shocking turn of events, a gold trader in Kolkata has reported receiving an extortion letter allegedly from Maoists, demanding a staggering ₹50 lakhs. Following this alarming incident, the businessman promptly lodged a complaint with the Barabazar police, prompting an immediate inquiry into the matter.
The authenticity of the letter is currently under scrutiny by investigating officers, who are working to determine whether it genuinely originates from Maoist groups or if it is a hoax. The trader operates from the Ram Rahim market on Old China Bazar Street in Barabazar. The letter, reportedly sent by an individual named Samir Mandal, explicitly requests the hefty sum to fund Maoist activities. Interestingly, police sources revealed that the letter was typed in Bengali, and while it initially bore the name Gupikanta Bagchi, that surname was later crossed out and replaced with Banerjee. the address listed on the letter points to the Hadipur Colony in the Deganga police jurisdiction of North 24 Parganas.
