Political Turmoil in Murshidabad: BJP Protests and Police Clashes
In a dramatic turn of events in West Bengal, BJP legislators, led by suvendu Adhikari, staged a protest march to the raj Bhavan following the rejection of a motion regarding the recent incidents in Murshidabad and Maheshtala. The situation escalated when state BJP president Sukanta Majumdar attempted to visit Maheshtala but was thwarted by police at Jinjira Bazar, who allegedly blocked the road with a prison van. This led to symbolic protests by BJP members, who expressed their discontent with the police’s actions.
The police cited Section 163, which prohibits political gatherings in the Rabindranagar area, as the reason for their intervention. After being denied access, Majumdar aimed to deliver a symbolic Tulsi plant to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, referencing its removal during the unrest on Wednesday. However, his efforts were cut short when he and other BJP leaders were arrested in Kalighat and taken away in a police van. This incident highlights the ongoing tensions in West Bengal’s political landscape, as the BJP continues to challenge the ruling party’s authority amidst rising unrest.
