Women Block Train Services to Demand Increased Quota in Local Trains

Commuters Protest for Increased Women-Only Train Coaches in Shyambazar

In a significant presentation of frustration, daily commuters in Shyambazar, South 24 Parganas, have staged a train blockade demanding an increase in the number of women-only coaches.The protest, which began at 7:40 AM, has disrupted train services across several lines, including Lakshmikantapur, Kakdwip, and Canning, leaving many passengers stranded.the blockade took place near the South Barasat railway station, where commuters voiced their grievances over the overwhelming crowding in local trains. With trains halted at multiple stations, including Mathurapur, the situation quickly escalated. Protesters expressed their concerns about the lack of additional coaches, which has led to daily struggles for women and other passengers who find it increasingly challenging to navigate the packed compartments. As the rail police arrived on the scene, they engaged with the demonstrators in an effort to restore order. The atmosphere was tense, with commuters pushing and shoving as they sought to voice their demands. The urgency of the situation highlights the pressing need for improved infrastructure and services to accommodate the growing number of daily travelers.
