Demand for Central Forces: Suvendu Adhikari Calls for Change in election Protocols
In a bold move, Suvendu Adhikari, a prominent leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has raised serious concerns regarding police inaction during recent violence in Murshidabad. He has urged the Election Commission to consider deploying police from othre states for upcoming elections, arguing that local law enforcement has proven ineffective. Adhikari’s call comes as the Commission prepares for by-elections in five assembly constituencies, including Kaliganj in Nadia, scheduled for June 19.
Adhikari’s assertion stems from his experiance during the Murshidabad unrest, where he claims police were unresponsive when called upon. He emphasized that relying on the state police for election duties could jeopardize the integrity of the voting process. In response to these concerns, the Election Commission has decided to deploy 18-20 companies of central forces to ensure a secure environment for the upcoming elections. Reports indicate that these forces are expected to arrive in the state within the week, aiming to bolster voter confidence and maintain order during the electoral process.
