Karnataka’s Coastal Areas Devastated by Continuous Heavy Rains
The coastal regions of Karnataka are grappling with severe disruptions due to relentless heavy rainfall. The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for various areas, warning that conditions may worsen in the coming days. With forecasts predicting heavy to extremely heavy rainfall until June 17, the situation is particularly dire in Mangaluru and the surrounding South Canara district.
Numerous roads in the city are submerged, including prominent routes like Car Street, Lower Bendur, and the Kotar and Padil railway underpasses. This has effectively halted movement, leaving many residents stranded as water levels rise to knee height in several housing complexes. In response to the adverse weather, local authorities have announced the closure of schools and colleges across South Canara, further complicating the lives of those already affected by the flooding.
