Pakistan Seeks International Mediation for Water and Kashmir Talks with India
In a significant diplomatic move, Pakistan is calling for international mediation to facilitate discussions with India regarding water rights and the contentious Kashmir issue. Led by former Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, a Pakistani delegation recently concluded a visit to the United States and has now arrived in the UK. During this visit, member Khurram Dastgir emphasized that the mediation offered by U.S. President Trump came at a critical juncture, as they faced resistance in their efforts for peace.
Another delegation member, former Pakistani Ambassador to the U.S. Sherry Rehman, pointed out that Americans are beginning to understand that water should not be weaponized. She criticized the situation in Kashmir, likening it to the world’s largest open-air prison. this comes in the wake of India suspending the Indus Water Treaty following the Pulwama attack, which has left the agreement in limbo despite a ceasefire between the two nations. The ongoing tensions highlight the urgent need for dialog and resolution in a region fraught with past grievances and geopolitical complexities.
