The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned former Indian cricketers Harbhajan Singh and Yuvraj Singh as part of an inquiry into illegal online betting apps. This inquiry has expanded to include other notable figures, such as cricketer Suresh Raina and actress Urvashi Rautela, highlighting the growing concern over the promotion of these illicit platforms.
According to ED sources, the investigation focuses on the promotion of banned platforms like 1XBet, which allegedly use surrogate names in thier advertising campaigns. These promotions frequently enough include web links and QR codes that redirect users to the main illegal betting sites, clearly violating current laws. Despite the gravity of the situation, Yuvraj Singh, Suresh Raina, and Urvashi Rautela have remained tight-lipped, offering little in the way of public comment. Reports indicate that over ₹50 crore has been paid to various companies for these advertising campaigns, raising questions about the ethics and legality of celebrity endorsements in the gambling sector.
