Relief from Heat as Rain Brings Temporary Respite to Kolkata Residents
After a night of heavy rainfall, Kolkata residents woke up to a slight relief from the sweltering heat on Thursday morning. The oppressive humidity that had been weighing down the city has eased, thanks to the downpour. The Alipore Meteorological Department has indicated that several districts in the state may continue to experience rain throughout the day, with thunderstorms and gusty winds expected to reach speeds of 50 to 60 kilometers per hour.
The districts of North and South 24 Parganas, West midnapore, Jhargram, Nadia, and Murshidabad are likely to face the brunt of the storm, prompting the issuance of an orange alert for these areas. As the day progresses, Kolkata’s sky remains partially cloudy, and the weather office has forecasted that rain will persist across most districts in Bengal until Friday. With a minimum temperature recorded at 22.4 degrees Celsius, the threat of severe weather looms over northern Bengal in the coming days, while scattered showers are expected to continue across the state through Sunday and Monday.
