Prime Minister Modi Expresses Grief Over Ahmedabad Plane Crash
In a heartfelt message on X, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his devastation over the tragic plane crash in Ahmedabad, stating he is in constant touch with ministers and administrative officials. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar also shared his condolences regarding the incident. Meanwhile, Air India has released the passenger list, revealing a diverse group on board.
Among the 169 Indian passengers were 53 British nationals, 7 Portuguese, and 1 Canadian. Notably, former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani was reportedly on the flight, listed as passenger number 12. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) confirmed that the chief pilot,Captain sumit Sabharwal,had an extraordinary 8,200 hours of flying experience,while co-pilot Clive Kunder had logged 1,100 hours. Prime Minister Modi has spoken with Home minister Amit Shah and Civil Aviation minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, directing them to head to Ahmedabad promptly. President Droupadi Murmu also expressed her sorrow, calling the incident heart-wrenching and extending her condolences to the victims’ families, assuring them that the nation stands with them in this difficult time.
Congress MP Rahul Gandhi joined the chorus of condolences, urging party workers to assist in rescue efforts.In a response to the crash involving a flight bound for London, the British goverment announced that it is indeed collaborating with Indian authorities and has set up a special helpline for British citizens affected by the tragedy. As the nation mourns, the focus now shifts to the ongoing rescue operations and the support being extended to the families of those impacted.
