Kamal Haasan Faces Backlash Over Kannada Language Remarks
Kamal Haasan, the celebrated South Indian actor, has ignited a fierce controversy following his recent comments about the Kannada language. During a promotional event for his upcoming film “Thug Life” in Chennai, Haasan claimed that Kannada “was born out of Tamil.” This statement has led to significant backlash from various groups in Karnataka, demanding an apology from the actor. The Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce has even threatened to ban the film if he does not comply.Despite the uproar, Haasan has firmly refused to apologize, asserting that his love for Karnataka and it’s culture is genuine. He emphasized that he has faced similar threats in the past and remains confident in the democratic principles of the contry. Haasan stated, “If I have made a mistake, I will certainly apologize, but if I haven’t, there is no question of doing so.” The controversy has sparked protests in parts of Karnataka, with kannada organizations calling for a boycott of “Thug Life,” which is set to release on June 5. The film, directed by Mani Ratnam, features a star-studded cast, including Silambarasan and Trisha Krishnan, with music composed by the renowned A.R. Rahman.
