Calcutta High Court Grants Permission for Protest at bikash Bhavan
In a notable ruling, the Calcutta High Court has allowed local residents to formally express their objections regarding the ongoing protests outside Bikash Bhavan. Justice tirthankar Ghosh emphasized the need for the petitioners to submit their concerns in writing to the state, which will guide the court’s next steps. Meanwhile, the court has instructed that no harsh actions should be taken against the petitioners by the police, with the next hearing scheduled for Friday.
The protests, which have been ongoing for nearly five days, have raised questions about the involvement of various groups. Kalyan Bandopadhyay, representing the state, argued that qualified teachers are leading the demonstrations, while questioning the presence of a Group D employee among them. The protests have reportedly resulted in injuries to 22 police personnel, with 19 others falling ill during the unrest. This area is not only home to Bikash Bhavan but also several other government offices, highlighting the broader implications of the ongoing situation.
