In a shocking turn of events in Malda, allegations have surfaced regarding the misappropriation of funds intended for flood relief efforts. Members of the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) have accused their own party officials of creating fake bills to siphon off nearly ₹1.5 crore from the 15th Finance Commission and Swachh Bharat mission funds. This internal strife has raised eyebrows and questions about accountability within the party, as the very individuals responsible for aiding flood victims are now at the centre of a scandal. The accusations were brought forth by 13 TMC members from the Panchayat of North Chandipur, led by Deputy Chief Nasir Sheikh. They have lodged formal complaints with the District Magistrate and the Block Development Officer (BDO) of Manikchak, highlighting the alleged misconduct of Panchayat head archana Mandal and Executive Assistant Basudev Mandal. The situation escalated to the point were the group sought intervention from the High Court in March, demanding a thorough inquiry. The court has as instructed the BDO to submit a detailed report within three months. Meanwhile, the accused panchayat head has remained elusive, raising concerns about transparency and governance in the region. As the investigation unfolds, the implications of these allegations could resonate far beyond Malda, potentially shaking the foundations of political trust in the area.
