Missed Possibility: Political tensions Rise Over Kashmir’s Control
In a heated exchange in the West Bengal Assembly, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee criticized the central government for failing to seize the opportunity to take control of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) following recent attacks in Pahalgam. She expressed frustration over the lack of accountability for the perpetrators of these attacks, questioning the government’s commitment to national security. In response, opposition leader Suvendu Adhikari suggested a provocative solution involving drones to secure the territory.
During the assembly session, Banerjee highlighted the recent Pahalgam incident and the subsequent Operation Sindoor, asserting that this was a prime moment for India to assert its claim over PoK.She lamented that not only had the opportunity been squandered, but the attackers remained at large, raising serious concerns about the government’s ability to protect its citizens. Her remarks underscored a growing sentiment of urgency regarding national security and territorial integrity.
Adhikari’s retort was equally charged, as he proposed that the defense Minister could easily resolve the issue by deploying drones to send key political figures into PoK, implying that such bold actions could lead to reclaiming the territory. This exchange reflects the heightened political stakes surrounding Kashmir, where both leaders are leveraging the situation to bolster their positions. As tensions simmer, the discourse around Kashmir remains a pivotal issue in Indian politics, resonating deeply with the public’s sentiments on national pride and security.
