Travel Permits for North Sikkim Canceled Amidst Heavy Rain and Landslides
In a significant move, teh Sikkim management has canceled all travel permits for North Sikkim due to relentless rainfall that has caused severe flooding in the Teesta River. The region is currently under a red alert, with landslides disrupting road connectivity, especially affecting routes to Chungthang. Residents near the Teesta River have been advised to contact the district control room for any emergencies.
The heavy rains have left the village of Findang nearly submerged, raising concerns for the safety of tourists and locals alike. Recently, a tragic incident occurred when a vehicle carrying tourists from Odisha met with an accident on the road from Chungthang to Munsithang. One body has been recovered, while two others are hospitalized, and eight individuals remain unaccounted for. The situation remains critical as authorities work to manage the aftermath of the flooding and ensure the safety of all affected.
