As India grapples with a resurgence of COVID-19,the latest data from the Ministry of Health reveals a concerning rise in active cases,now totaling 3,758. In just 24 hours, 685 new infections were reported, a stark increase from only 257 active cases on May 22.This surge, amounting to a staggering 1,200% increase over the past week, has raised alarms across several states, particularly Kerala, Maharashtra, and Delhi.
The majority of new cases are concentrated in a handful of states, with Kerala leading the charge at 1,400 active cases. Maharashtra follows with 485, while Delhi reports 436. Other states like Gujarat and Karnataka are also witnessing increases, with 320 and 238 active cases, respectively. The situation is further complicated by the emergence of new variants, NB.1.8.1 and LF.7, which health authorities are closely monitoring. Tragically, the last 24 hours have also seen four COVID-related deaths across Delhi, Kerala, Karnataka, and Uttar pradesh, highlighting the ongoing risks associated with the virus.
In Delhi, a 71-year-old patient succumbed to the virus while battling pneumonia, while a 63-year-old in Karnataka faced similar health challenges.A 59-year-old man in Kerala and a 23-year-old in Uttar Pradesh also lost thier lives, underscoring the virus’s indiscriminate nature. As the nation navigates this latest wave, the call for vigilance and adherence to health protocols has never been more critical.
