In a striking revelation on World Tea Day,West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has voiced serious concerns regarding the adulteration of Darjeeling tea by Nepali vendors. she emphasized the need for stringent measures to protect the iconic brand, urging the district governance to take immediate action against the misuse of the Darjeeling tea name. During her visit to Bagdogra,where she interacted with tea garden workers,Banerjee highlighted the importance of safeguarding the Darjeeling tea brand.She has instructed the Tea Board to address this issue with urgency, even going so far as to wriet to the Chief Secretary for further action. To combat the influx of counterfeit tea,she proposed the installation of detection machines along the Nepal border. Her visit was not just about policy; it was also a moment of connection, as she engaged with workers about their daily lives, inquiring about their work hours and their children’s education. In a gesture of goodwill, she distributed sarees to the women and gifts like chocolates and toys to the children, reinforcing her commitment to the community.
