In a shocking case that highlights the grim realities of extortion and violence, a Ranaghat court has sentenced two men to life imprisonment for the murder of a local betel vendor, Dilip biswas. The incident, which took place on February 28, 2015, stemmed from a failed extortion attempt, leading to a tragic loss of life that has reverberated through the community.
The court’s decision comes after a decade-long legal battle,during which 28 witnesses testified against the accused,Nayan Sarkar and his accomplice,Nirmal Debnath. The duo shot Biswas in the head when he refused to pay the extortion money.The case, which was filed by the victim’s family at the Shantipur police station, underscores the pervasive issue of organized crime in the region. On Friday, Additional District Judge Soumen Gupta delivered the life sentance, emphasizing the need for stringent measures against such heinous acts.
