As the West Bengal Assembly session kicked off this week, tensions flared dramatically. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s speech was interrupted by BJP legislators who stormed the well of the house, chanting slogans and protesting vehemently. This disruption led to the suspension of Kumargram MLA Manoj Oraon for a day, a move that only intensified the BJP’s outcry, prompting them to stage a walkout and protest outside the assembly.
The BJP’s grievances stemmed from Banerjee’s comments regarding alleged central government neglect. As she spoke, the BJP members created a ruckus, leading to oraon’s suspension and his subsequent removal by marshals. Outside, the BJP legislators continued their protest, sitting on the assembly steps wiht a Tulsi plant in front of them, symbolizing their commitment to their cause. They argued that their voices were being stifled whenever they attempted to raise legitimate concerns. The BJP’s education cell members also submitted a motion for discussion, focusing on the dire state of the state’s education system and the uncertain future of nearly 26,000 job seekers affected by a recent Supreme Court ruling. However, the Speaker clarified that discussions on such matters were not feasible due to their ongoing judicial status.
This clash highlights the growing political friction in West bengal, where the BJP is increasingly vocal about its demands and frustrations, particularly regarding education and employment issues. As the assembly sessions unfold, the stakes are high, and the political landscape remains charged with emotion and urgency.
