In a heartbreaking incident in the West Singhbhum district of Jharkhand, a CRPF soldier lost his life due to an IED explosion orchestrated by Maoists. The soldier, 34-year-old Satyavan Kumar, hailed from Kushinagar in Uttar Pradesh. This tragic event underscores the ongoing challenges faced by security forces in combating Maoist insurgency in the region.
The incident unfolded when a joint team from Odisha’s Special Operations Group and the 134th battalion of the CRPF conducted a search operation in the Saranda forest area, close to the Odisha-Jharkhand border. Acting on a tip-off, the team was on high alert. Unluckily, during the operation,Satyavan inadvertently triggered an underground explosive device, leading to a devastating blast that reverberated through the area. He was thrown several meters away and sustained severe injuries. Despite being rushed to a private hospital in Rourkela, he succumbed to his injuries. This marks a grim statistic, as 19 security personnel have now lost their lives to Maoist violence this year alone, highlighting the persistent threat posed by insurgent groups in India.
