As COVID-19 cases begin to rise once more across India, Kerala has reported 182 new infections this month, alongside two tragic fatalities. While health officials assert that the situation is not yet alarming, the doubling of active cases in just two days raises concerns. The deceased, aged 59 and 64,were residents of Thiruvananthapuram and succumbed to the virus in a private hospital.
The uptick in cases is believed to be linked to increasing infections in Southeast Asia, with most cases presenting mild symptoms. However, individuals with pre-existing health conditions remain at heightened risk. Experts are especially wary of the Omicron sub-lineages BA.2.75 and NB.1.8, which may be contributing to the current wave. Samples have been sent to the National Institute of Virology in Pune for genetic analysis.Beyond Kerala, the capital city of Delhi has also reported 23 cases, while Gujarat identified 15 new infections. Additionally, COVID-19 cases have emerged in Gurugram and Faridabad in Haryana, and Karnataka has reported 15 cases as well. As the nation navigates this resurgence, vigilance and public health measures remain crucial in mitigating the spread.
