In a shocking incident that highlights the growing menace of cybercrime, a senior official from the Indian government was reportedly subjected to a digital arrest in Kolkata. The accused, posing as CBI agents, allegedly detained the official at a hotel on park Street and extorted a staggering ₹25 lakh. The callers, impersonating CBI officials, claimed that a parcel addressed to Sikdar contained illegal drugs, prompting them to demand a check of his bank accounts. Under duress, Sikdar was coerced into transferring ₹25 lakh online while being held at the hotel. The police swiftly launched an examination, leading to the arrest of eight individuals from Howrah and New town, including three apprehended near Eco Park.
