Upcoming By-Election in Kaliganj: A Political Showdown Between TMC and BJP
As the political landscape in West Bengal gears up for the upcoming assembly elections, the Election Commission has announced a by-election date for Kaliganj in Nadia district on June 19. This announcement comes in the wake of the untimely demise of TMC MLA Nasiruddin Ahmed on February 1, leaving the constituency without representation. With both the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ramping up their efforts, the stage is set for a fierce contest.
In a recent statement, Debashis Roy, the spokesperson for TMC in Nadia North, expressed confidence in their chances, asserting that the BJP has virtually vanished from the constituency. He highlighted TMC’s meaningful victory margin in the previous elections, claiming a “100% guarantee” of success this time around. On the flip side,Arjun Biswas, the district president of BJP in Nadia North, acknowledged the challenges posed by the timing of the by-election but emphasized that the party woudl fight with full vigor. He noted that while the next assembly elections are slated for 2026, the Kaliganj seat is firmly in BJP’s sights, regardless of who the party fields as a candidate. As both parties prepare for this electoral battle, the stakes are high, and the outcome could set the tone for the future political dynamics in West Bengal.
