West Bengal Education Minister Faces Questions on College Admission Delays
In a recent assembly session, West Bengal’s Education Minister Bratya Basu was put on the spot regarding the commencement of the college admission process for students who have completed their higher secondary education. Responding to BJP MLA Bishwanath Sarkar’s inquiry,Basu assured that the state government has not caused any delays in the admission timeline.
Last year, the online admission portal was launched on June 19, adhering to the guidelines set by the University Grants Commission (UGC). Though, the academic year has yet to begin, with technical work on the portal still ongoing. Basu indicated that this shoudl be resolved within a week. The results for the ISC were released on April 30, followed by the higher secondary results on May 7, and the CBSE Class 12 results on May 13.Despite this, it has been nearly a month, and the admission process for colleges and universities has not yet started.
As the portal remains closed, complications have arisen, especially concerning legal issues related to OBC certificates, further complicating the admission process. Students and parents alike are left in a state of uncertainty, eagerly awaiting clarity on when they can secure their spots in higher education institutions.
