BJP Claims OBC Reservation is Favoring Muslims in West Bengal
In a heated political debate,BJP leaders, including Suvendu Adhikari and Amit malviya, have taken too social media to assert that the Other Backward Classes (OBC) reservation in West Bengal is disproportionately benefiting a specific community, particularly muslims. They argue that while the Chief Minister insists that OBC reservations are not based on religion, statistics tell a diffrent story. In 2010, the OBC population was recorded at 66%, with only 20% of reservations allocated to minority communities. Fast forward to 2025, and the figures have dramatically shifted, with 90% of OBC One reservations now going to minorities, and 84% for OBC Two.
The BJP’s allegations suggest that the current reservation policies are designed to favor a particular community, contradicting the Chief Minister’s claims. This has sparked a significant political controversy, raising questions about the fairness and intent behind the OBC reservation system in the state. As the debate intensifies, it highlights the complexities of caste and community dynamics in Indian politics, where numbers can often tell a story that diverges from official narratives.
