Political Tensions Rise as PM Modi inaugurates Chenab Rail Bridge in Jammu and Kashmir
In a critically important event marking the inauguration of the Chenab Rail Bridge, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s presence has reignited discussions about the political status of Jammu and Kashmir.Former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah took the prospect to subtly criticize Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, highlighting the shifting dynamics of power in the region.Abdullah, who served as Chief minister from 2009 to 2015, reflected on the changes in governance and the implications for local leadership.
Recalling his tenure, Abdullah noted the various railway projects initiated during Modi’s government, including the Anantnag railway station and the Banihal railway tunnel. He pointedly remarked on Sinha’s transition from being a Union Minister of Railways from 2014 to 2019 to his current role as the Lieutenant Governor of a Union Territory. “His promotion has come at the cost of his previous stature; he was once a Chief Minister of a state, and now he oversees a centrally administered region,” Abdullah stated, emphasizing the complexities of governance in Jammu and Kashmir. This exchange not only underscores the ongoing political tensions but also reflects the emotional landscape of a region grappling with its identity and autonomy.
