Young Man Arrested in Konnagar for Elaborate Phone Fraud Scheme
In a shocking turn of events, a young man from Konnagar has been arrested by the bidhannagar City Police for allegedly orchestrating a complex fraud scheme that involved obtaining personal information under the guise of providing loans. The accused, identified as Soumik Bhattacharya, reportedly used this information to purchase expensive mobile phones, leaving victims with hefty EMIs to pay. At least 100 individuals have fallen prey to this scam,with police estimating that the total fraud could amount to several crores of rupees.
The investigation was triggered after multiple victims filed complaints with the police. One victim, Arup Dey from Kanai Pur, revealed that a phone worth ₹1.3 lakh was purchased in his name without his consent. He had provided his information to soumik under the impression that he was applying for a loan. Another resident, Moumita Singh, claimed that her and her family’s documents were misused to buy a phone worth nearly ₹4 lakh. This case highlights the growing concern over identity theft and fraud in the digital age, as individuals are increasingly vulnerable to such deceptive practices. The police are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to prevent further incidents.
