Jagannath Returns to Puri: A grand Celebration Amidst Challenges

According to the Jagannath Temple administration, the Pahandi ritual commenced at noon, following a traditional sweeping ceremony performed by the Gajapati Maharaja at 2:30 PM. The pulling of the chariots began at 4 PM, with tight security measures in place to ensure the safety of the attendees. A total of 6,000 state police personnel and 800 CAPF members were deployed to maintain order, especially after a tragic incident on June 29, where three devotees lost their lives in a stampede at the Gundicha temple. The weather forecast indicates favorable conditions, which could lead to an even larger crowd this year. To monitor the situation, 275 AI-enabled CCTV cameras have been installed along the procession route, ensuring that the festivities proceed smoothly while keeping the safety of the devotees a top priority.
