Police Rescue Kidnapped Businessman Linked to UPI Transactions in Kolkata
In a dramatic turn of events,police in Kolkata have successfully rescued a businessman who was kidnapped in connection with an online money transaction via UPI. The incident has led to the arrest of five suspects, shedding light on the darker side of digital finance in india.
On Friday afternoon, Tapasi Majumdar reported that her husband, Timir Majumdar, was abducted near the Netaji Bhawan Metro Station in Bhawanipur. According to her statement, a group of individuals forcibly took him, demanding a ransom of ₹5 lakh. In a desperate attempt to secure his release, Tapasi transferred ₹10,000 online to the kidnappers. This transaction became a crucial lead for the police, who launched an immediate investigation. They first apprehended a suspect near Sukanta Setu in Jadavpur that same night.
Following intense interrogation, the police were able to track down the remaining five suspects at a multi-story building on Raja Subodh Mallik Road.Interestingly, it was revealed that the accused were previously acquainted with the couple, raising questions about trust and safety in personal relationships. This incident not only highlights the risks associated with online transactions but also serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance in an increasingly digital world.
