871 Medical Graduates Stalled: Allegations of Government Retaliation Post-Protests
In a troubling turn of events, 871 medical graduates who have completed their postgraduate studies adn counseling are unable to join their designated positions. A staggering 90% of these graduates were at the forefront of the RG Kar protest, raising concerns that their activism may have led to this bureaucratic roadblock. The situation has sparked outrage among the medical community, prompting them to voice their grievances directly to health officials. On Wednesday, members of the Medical Service Center submitted a formal deputation to Health Secretary Nabayan Swarup Nigam at the Health Department. They claim that the government is unjustly punishing them for their involvement in the protests. Following the proclamation of results on February 28, a notification for counseling was issued on March 6, and by March 25, the allocation of positions was finalized.Yet,despite these developments, the graduates remain in limbo, unable to commence their careers. This situation not only highlights the challenges faced by aspiring medical professionals but also raises questions about the government’s commitment to supporting healthcare workers, especially those who dare to speak out.
