As the monsoon season approaches, the Alipore Meteorological Department has confirmed that the southwest monsoon is expected to reach South Bengal by June 16 or 17. Though, despite this arrival, the anticipated rainfall may not meet the demands of the region, with forecasts suggesting that significant rain might be delayed until the end of June or the begining of July. Simultaneously occurring, North Bengal is bracing for heavy downpours, with alerts issued for several districts.
In Kolkata, the minimum temperature recorded on Friday was 28.2 degrees Celsius, slightly above the normal range. Residents can expect a drop in temperatures across South Bengal by Sunday. On Saturday, warnings for extremely heavy rainfall have been issued for Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar, while districts like Darjeeling, Kalimpong, and Cooch Behar are also likely to experience considerable rain. As the monsoon unfolds, the contrasting weather patterns between the north and south of the state highlight the unpredictable nature of this season, leaving many eagerly awaiting the much-needed rains.
