Jobless Teachers Stage hunger Strike Demanding Reinstatement Amid Health Crisis
In a desperate bid to reclaim their lost positions, a group of qualified teachers who have been rendered jobless has entered the third day of their hunger strike. The situation escalated on Sunday when one of the protesters, Boloram Biswas, fell seriously ill and was rushed to RG Kar Hospital. The teachers are demanding the publication of a list of eligible candidates and have outlined five key demands, vowing to continue their protest until their voices are heard.
Since Thursday night, ten jobless teachers have been camped out at a makeshift hunger strike venue opposite the Bikash Bhavan, the state education department’s headquarters. Despite medical professionals urging them to withdraw from the strike for health reasons, the teachers remain steadfast in their resolve. They argue that they will not allow their jobs to be taken away without a fight and insist that the government must release the list of eligible teachers immediately. They have pledged to continue their hunger strike until the state government takes concrete steps to reinstate them in schools. This protest follows a Supreme Court ruling that annulled the entire 2016 recruitment panel due to allegations of corruption, prompting the teachers to gather outside bikash Bhavan since early May, seeking justice and reinstatement.
